Giveaway: Free TurboTax Deluxe Online 2009

Post image for Giveaway: Free TurboTax Deluxe Online 2009

This giveaway has ended and prizes have been claimed, but don’t despair. Read on to learn how you might still qualify for free tax preparation software. Ha ha. That rhymes.

Last Thursday, I attended a Meet and Eat and Drink hosted by the good folks of TurboTax. Although I absolutely adore and appreciate you, dear reader, I was mostly concerned about what I could get for myself – in addition to the free food and drinks. I left the event with three burning hot gift cards for free federal and state tax return preparation using TurboTax Deluxe Online 2009.

Don’t get too excited. Y’all ain’t getting all of ‘em. I’m keeping one. Even though I’m a CPA, I’m not a tax specialist, and I, shamefully, still need to file my 2008 state tax return.

Before entering the giveaway, please consider whether you already qualify for free e-filing. There are governmental initiatives in place that might allow you to use other tax prep software at no cost. According to the Internal Revenue Service’s web site, approximately 70% of U.S. taxpayers can file their federal income tax return using such a free service. Some companies will even allow you to free-file (I just made that word up) your state tax return, so I highly encourage you to head on over to www.IRS.gov/freefile to find out if you qualify.

Do it now. I’ll wait.

Additionally, TurboTax Online Free Edition is available to taxpayers who file relatively simple federal returns (state returns carry an additional cost). Unlike the free products offered through the IRS’ web site, an adjusted gross income in excess of $57,000 won’t exclude you from the offer.

Assuming you’re still bound to pay for federal and/or state tax prep or are just too lazy to determine otherwise, HERE’S HOW TO ENTER.

Record your entries in the Comments section below. Remember to include a valid e-mail address as this is how I’ll contact you if you’re a winner.

You can enter the giveaway up to 4 different ways.

1) Leave a comment telling me how you plan on filing your federal and state income tax returns for free OR at a discounted price.

If you choose to enter the giveaway using any of the methods below, please submit a separate comment for each one.

2) Subscribe to You Have More Than You Think via RSS feed or e-mail.

3) Follow me on Twitter.

4) Blog or tweet about this giveaway.

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only. No entries will be accepted after 11:59 PM EST on Sunday, January 24, 2010. If you’re one of the winners, you’ll have 48 hours to respond after being notified before an alternate is chosen.

Good luck!!!

I usually just e-file my returns through one of the partners listed on the IRS.GOV site, but TurboTax Deluxe would be nice.

I am planning on using Turbo Tax through my credit union, but I would love to have it for free instead!

Whoa! I would really like to win this. We do not qualify for the free one and I have been doing the slow, paper thing for years. This would be awesome. Thanks for the opportunity.

Keep in mind that TurboTax Free Edition is also available directly from our website at http://www.turbotax.com. TurboTax Free Edition is for those filers who have relatively simple returns. Best of all, there is no income limit (as is the case with the free version at http://www.irs.gov).

I hope this information helps.

You know I'm a big fan, so of course I follow you via @msjaszy and @modernhippiemag plus I am subscribed to your email AND RSS…okay maybe I'm a bit obsessed!

Up until I started my own business, I always did my taxes using TurboTax, it really is extremely easy to use and filing online is very convenient. Most times I got my refund via direct deposit within days. Now that I can no longer afford to have someone else do my taxes I will once again turn to Turbo Tax.

Reply

Shawanda January 20, 2010 at 2:21 AM

One year, it only took me like a week to get a refund via direct deposit. Another year I think I would've had to pay a $30 fee for the privilege, so I decided to wait the 6 weeks for a hard check.

I have used the free version of Turbo Tax to file my son and my daughter's simple tax returns. And for myself I have been using TaxAct. I would really love to win this deluxe edition of Turbo Tax because in 2009 my husband finally after three years of waiting got his Social Security disability and since he was paid for the 3 back years I have no idea how to do out taxes this year. So I was planning to use a tax accountant. Maybe I could do my taxes myself If I win this. Thanks.

I love Turbo Tax and don't qualify for the free version. If I don't win a free verson then I will search for the best promotion code to get a discount on the program…sometimes its better than the discount Turbo Tax emails me for being a past customer.

I've had the auto-renewal for TurboTax for a long time, but last year I got a free copy in the mail (still not sure why). So I cancelled the renewal for this year and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But I'm not picky as to *where* that free copy comes from. :-)
