Giveaway: Free TurboTax Deluxe Online 2010

by Shawanda Greene

TurboTax

This giveaway has ended and prizes have been claimed, but don’t despair. Read on to learn how you might still qualify for free tax preparation software.

I’m proud to announce that I’m kicking off the end of the second month of 2011 with a Free TurboTax Deluxe Online 2010 giveaway.

You know, to this day, I haven’t been able to find a better price than free.

Before entering the giveaway, please consider whether you already qualify for free income tax return preparation and e-filing. There are governmental initiatives in place that may allow you to use other tax prep software at no cost.

Those with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of less than $58,000 are most likely to find a free option. You might even be allowed to file your state tax return for free, so I highly recommend you check out www.IRS.gov/freefile to see if you qualify.

Here’s a fun fact: According to the Internal Revenue Service’s web site, approximately 70% of U.S. taxpayers have an AGI of $58,000 or less.

For taxpayers with annual incomes in excess of $58,000, there’s still hope of using free tax preparation software for the completion and e-file of your federal income tax return. TurboTax Online Federal Free AdditionTaxACT Free Edition, and H&R Block At Home Free Edition all feature the following benefits to the taxpayer at no cost:

  • No income restrictions
  • Preparation of forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ and certain related schedules (schedules C, E, F, and K-1 are, generally, excluded)
  • Free e-file for federal income tax returns ONLY. (State income tax return preparation is available for an additional fee.)

If you earned $57,000 or less in 2010, you’ll qualify to file your federal AND state income taxes online through MyFreeTaxes.com. This site also features a handy tool that’ll help you find a local organization that provides in person tax preparation at no cost.

If you’re one of the “unlucky” souls who has to pay for federal and/or state tax prep or just can’t bother to determine otherwise, HERE’S HOW TO ENTER.

Record your entries in the Comments section below. Please include a valid e-mail address as this is how I’ll contact you if you’re a winner.

You can enter the giveaway up to 4 different ways.

1) Leave a comment telling me how you plan on filing your federal and state income tax returns for free OR at a discounted price.

If you choose to enter the giveaway using any of the methods below, please submit a separate comment for each one.

2) Subscribe to You Have More Than You Think via RSS feed or e-mail.

3) Follow me on Twitter.

4) Blog or tweet about this giveaway.

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only. No entries will be accepted after 11:59 PM EST on Friday, March 4, 2011. If you’re one of the winners, you’ll have 48 hours to respond after being notified before an alternate is chosen.

Best of luck!!!

This tax software would help me with all the self-employment income I had last year!

I'm hoping to save money by doing it online rather than using a professional person, but my taxes are complicated, so I'd have to use one of the "deluxe" versions of the online software.

I’m lucky that my school sponsors VITA–which is the free income tax volunteering assistance! I’m a part of it and learned thru their materials how to start the process…and use their help!

No need for a state return in TX, just need to file my federal return using TurboTax which I always use. And I don't qualify for a free version, so hope to win. Thanks for the giveaway chance!
