I just made 'em last week and stuck them in the freezer - and we just had a lazy dinner and they were, in fact, as good as I thought they'd be! I'll post it in a couple of days and come back with a link for you. . .

My aunt cooks the best food I ever tasted and she doesn't write anything down either. Whenever I ask her for a recipe, it's always " a lil' salt, a lil' pepper." That's it?!

I'll look into the Super Lysine. I have a coworker who's convinced I'm vitamin D deficient since I'm black and all. He's probably right. I don't get nearly enough sun called for by nature.

Hah! "Hairy eyeball." That's hilarious. I know exactly what you mean.

Once I stretched out a common cold three weeks working long hours while sick. Ah, those were the good ol' days.

Do you have a link to the 15 for $4 and somethin' delicious homemade burritos recipe?

Thanks for the advice!

Let me tell you about beans. They're delicious, and I love them. But I have confession, between me and you, I'm terrified of cooking them. I bought some uncooked black beans a few months ago and still haven't cooked them. The last time I tried to cook beans from scratch was in 2002. I cooked those black eyed peas for 45 minutes and they were still crunchy. I was too hungry to wait!
However, with a bit more education and a whole lot of patience, I'm confident that, on a full stomach, I can cook a batch of BPA-free dry beans.

Hey, hope you get to feelin' better soon! My husband says that I am the master of the crock pot, but truth is I just kinda throw things in there and the angel over my shoulder makes it turn out okay. The next time I get an inspiration I'll have Steve video it 'cause I don't do the write stuff down bit.

Oh, and pick yourself up some Super Lysine, it will help knock out whatever viral nasties you have. I take it ever fall and winter and can't remember the last time I had a cold.

Chat later!

"Even though this place was a ghost town last week, I’ll have you know I didn’t take one sick day off work. I’m hardcore like that. Or maybe I’m incredibly selfish given the contagious and productivity hindering nature of my illness."

I know what you mean - I'm hardcore like that too. That, and it's just a waste of a good "sick day!" You know, every single firm I have ever worked in has the "if you're sick stay home and keep your germs to yourself" policy - yet if you actually DO stay home, they give you the "hairy eyeball" when you get back, anyway! Feh - go figure.

I completely agree with the above about cooking your own beans - last weekend, I cooked a pound of pinto beans (less than a buck), mashed them up for refried beans, added some chopped smoked beef from the freezer and cheddar cheese and rolled it all in tortillas for burritos. . . I'll bet 15 homemade burritos didn't even cost me more than $5 and maybe half an hour of preparing, once the beans were cooked.

Feel better - it's lousy being sick AND going to work.

Eating curry, turmeric, and any of those orangish spices is a very smart thing to do, especially when you're sick with a bug. They fight infection & inflammation (it's been big in the news lately). They think those spices also help prevent cancer and Alzheimers.

Make a bean soup and add turmeric, curry, tandoori - add some sauteed chopped kale & onions, garlic, chopped potatoes, chicken or veggie broth and coconut milk. Get creative with it - you can add lentils, tomatoes, etc. Freeze some in ziplock bags or mason jars so you'll have something that's good for you on hand for days you just don't feel like cooking. Serve the soup with a dallop of plain yogurt on top and side of warmed Indian Naam bread, it's so delicious.

btw...budget tip coming here. do not buy canned beans, they are expensive and full of BPA. instead, buy dried beans, cook them up, and freeze them in 1.5 cup portions (standard can size portion). Beans are approx 80% less expensive this way, and much healther.

Get well!
