Menu Plan Monday – Next Time I’ll Get KFC Edition

I did not successfully adhere to my menu plan last week, but it wasn’t my fault.

The exact day is a little fuzzy, but I think it was Tuesday when the plan fell apart. It all began when I started starving. Too hungry to wait for a delicious, home cooked meal, I decided I’d drive to KFC for an order of fried hot wings and potato wedges.

Since you tend to get more bang for your buck at the supermarket, I had the brilliant idea to pick up some sort of frozen entrée from Harris Teeter instead. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but I thought I’d figure it out once I had a chance to look around.

Well, I didn’t figure it out. I ended up buying a bunch of crap I didn’t need: beer battered fish sticks, ice cream, mozzarella cheese sticks, buffalo wings, and tater tots. I don’t know what came over me.

I exited Harris Teeter $33 poorer and covered in shame.

With all the convenience food safely tucked away in my freezer, I couldn’t resist not cooking. It was too easy.

Next time I’ll know better.

Monday/Tuesday – Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff over Rice (modified to include garlic and beef bouillon cube)

Wednesday/Thursday – Baked Salmon & Broccoli

Friday/Saturday – Salisbury Steak and Green Beans

Sunday – Broiled Trout with Rosemary, Lemon, and Garlic and Mashed Potatoes

Emergencies. Especially at the start of the week when I usually do lots of cooking for leftovers, etc. This week my cat was really sick. We just spent all night at the Emergency Clinic, and then had to wake up early in the morning to take him to the regular vet where he will have to stay for the next two days and be monitored.

All we've eaten since then? Rice and a small container of ice cream.

Finding myself hungry with no alternative always throws me for a loop. For this reason I've started keeping Luna & Cliff bars in the console of my car and at least 2 "quick meals" on hand at all times. It's better to fall off track with a TV dinner or some ramen, then to fall off track with a $6 value meal from Mickey D's.

That's a good idea. Thanks for reminding me. I used to keep Power Bars on me when I was really into fitness. The key was to never allow myself to get hungry. All reason went out the window if I did.

:( Sounds like what I did Sunday. Except after spending $31 in the grocery store, hubby stopped at McDs. We only spent $6 but still. I didn't have anything thawed from the freezer, hubby didn't want to eat anything I suggested. Here's to sticking to the plan!

Don't think I wasn't tempted to get the KFC anyway. After essentially grocery shopping, I still had to go back home and "cook" my food in the oven. The ice cream did hold me over for a little while.

You have a terrific menu planned.

I got sick last week and fell off the menu plan wagon. Going out is just too easy. We hadn't gone out in a while so I wasn't too guilty. Plus I was sick, I had an excuse.

    • Shawanda says:

Yeah it is. I almost hate to admit it but sometimes I welcome a valid excuse. If you\’re going to be inconvenienced anyway, you might as well use that excuse to get what you want or to avoid doing what you don\’t want.
