No kids? No problem! You Can Still Take Advantage of Back-to-School Sales

by Guest Poster

There’s a lot of dough spent as parents send their kids off to school. In the midst of all this shopping craziness there are great deals, coupons and sales on school supplies, furniture & dorm needs and clothing. Even if you are not a student and don’t have children, you can take advantage of this “shopportunity!” Here’s how:

School supplies discounts are great for restocking your home office needs. You may need a new computer, ink, paper, pens, etc. If so, stock up now and save.

If you are in the market to redecorate, shop during the back-to-school season to get deals on furniture, home furnishings and more. When college kids move in, they often start from scratch buying everything they need for their dorm room. Because of this, there are major sales.

color pencilsMany teens and college students are shopping at the same stores adults buy from. Take advantage of these sales. While they may not apply to everything, there are big sales on jeans, shoes and more.

If you are an early bird holiday shopper, there’s no reason you can’t start now during the back-to-school shopping period. You may find a journal, picture frame or sweater on sale now that would make a great gift in December.

Regardless of what you are buying, keep in mind that you should shop online for more savings. Remember to use a promo code for immediate savings off your bill (it only takes a minute to find a coupon code) plus earn cash back, a percentage of your transaction deposited into your free account, when you shop through a cash back website.

If you’d rather go to the store to shop, you can use your computer as a resource to do some quick shopping research: Check out online weekly ads to see what’s on sale near you. Stores such as Office Max, Staples, Target, Walmart and drugstores have a variety of school supplies on sale and department stores often have sales announced in their weekly ads.

This is a guest post from Jon Lal, founder of coupons & cash back website BeFrugal.com and couponing & savings expert. BeFrugal.com offers cash back for online shopping at 3,000+ online stores with a current average rate of 7%.

Great tips. I didn’t think about using back-to-school sales as Christmas gifts but it makes sense. It also reminded me that the holidays are coming up soon – haha!

That is a great idea. Too bad my default position toward gift giving is . . . I don’t do it.

I could use a back up laptop. If mine breaks down, I’d feel compelled to replace it right away. Which would hinder my ability to get a good deal on one. I think I saw one at Target for $250 on a back-to-school deal.

I should plan better to take advantage of these deals. I don’t have kids so I don’t thunk about it but it will be on my radar next year.

I don’t really need anything right now. Actually, my all-in-one printer just died, but I don’t wanna pay $130 to replace it. I keep my eyes peeled for a better deal.

I did take advantage of the back to school sale…I had to buy a notebook for myself. I got it for $0.50.

Would you believe when I first read your comment I interpreted “notebook” as “laptop?” I was about to become insanely jealous. You were talking about a notebook with sheets of paper and stuff in it, right?

My children are not old enough for a traditional school, but I always take advantage of Back to School deals so that I can help others out with school aged children. A lot of parents often cannot afford the long lists of supplies teachers provide so I try to donate items to help them out. They are always appreciative and may not be able to get the best deal like I can so I enjoy being able to share.

I always take advantage of the back to school sales. I restock my home office every year, and get some supplies for my granddaughters. It saves me a lot of money!
