About
Welcome to You Have More Than You Think.
I’m Shawanda Greene – the brains behind it all. As a constant thinker and learner, I’ll take information from anywhere it’s available and credible. I chronically suffer from passionate beliefs that often lead to outrage or uncontrollable feelings of self importance.
So, here’s my story.
In November 2007, I had $54 in savings and $25,000 in debt. By the end of December 2008, I was debt free with $7,500 in a 3-month emergency fund. During that time period I adopted a lifestyle of what some would consider extreme frugality. (It really wasn’t that bad. It’s just that – well – people are stupid.) What I found to be more important than anything else was genuine appreciation of the stuff I already possessed.
Contentment with the life I have is what continues to get me through those times when I want to buy something that I either a) can’t afford or b) isn’t important. It’s clear that many of us don’t value our assets – monetary or non-monetary. As a result, we end up squandering our money, our time and our planet’s resources.
I’m a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) who recently quit my job as Controller of a metro D.C. area software company.
You’ll often find me applying copious amounts lip balm, praising the joys of boxed wine and engaging in questionable activities befitting of a money grubber.
My journey towards financial freedom is incomplete. There’s still so much for me to learn. However, I have picked up a thing or two about money along the way that I’d like to share.
WARNING: As you set your mind and dedicate your actions to a life of financial abundance, you’ll likely draw the ire of those voluntarily destined to live a life of ordinary.
You’re put on notice:
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. ~ Albert Einstein
