While a cast-iron radiator isn’t the most technologically advanced way to heat your home, many places still have them, and replacing them can be pricey.
Often radiators are situated near a window, causing some of their heat to drift away from the center of the room, instead of towards it. Here’s an easy way to make a heat reflector that will direct the heat into the room:
1. Get a piece of cardboard roughly the size of the radiator itself – a flattened box will work for most units.
2. Cover the piece of cardboard with heavy-duty aluminum foil, shiny side out.
3. Secure the foil with a moisture-resistant tape such as duct tape or electrical tape
4. Place the piece of cardboard between your radiator and the wall.
