My 27 inch tube television isn’t beckoning me to install cable. I only use it to watch DVDs. If I had a mega TV then maybe I’d get the urge to subscribe to cable so that I could enjoy all of its awesome high definition qualities. Since I’m saving up for a down payment on a house, I don’t have any money earmarked for such a budget busting purchase. In the meantime, I’m still reveling in the fact that I’ve found a more affordable way to satisfy my desire for variety.
Fear – “What if the programming I want to watch isn’t available on its network’s website. I don’t have the patience to wait for my favorite shows to be released on DVD or made available on Netflix. I want it now.”
Solution – “Get a season pass to your favorite shows from Amazon or iTunes.”
Once I realized I couldn’t watch every episode of The Real Housewives and I Love New York on their respective network’s website for free, I turned to Amazon and iTunes. For less than $2.00 an episode, you can watch an entire commercial free season of certain television series. Episodes are made available for download within 24 hours of they’re original air time. If you only have a few programs that you just can’t give up, then this strategy can be highly cost effective.

I called my cable company today and said “My bill seems really high. Is there anything we can do to lower it?” After putting me on hold for just a minute or two, the representative came back on the line and said “I’ve applied a promotion to your account that will give you $10 off each month’s bill for the next 12 months.” I said thanks and hung up. It was that simple! $120 extra in my pocket this year.
