Rookie Cook Tip
The thing about certain ground beef dishes, e.g., hamburger patties, meatloaf, etc., is that you can’t adjust the flavor while you’re cooking them.
This week, I’m trying my hand at meatloaf. I’ve never made it before, and I’m concerned mine will come out bland, and thus, inedible for a woman of my discriminating taste.
Of course, you can always add salt, pepper, or whatever else you like to your food once it’s done. That’s fine if you’re combining the seasoning with a dish such as spaghetti, but for me, this method is unacceptable if the grains will sit on top of my meal and remind me of my failures as a cook. Which would be the case for meat loaf.
So, what do you do to ensure your meal will be flavorful and awesome before you cook it?
- Season your meat as you normally would.
- Then, cook a small piece in the microwave or on the stove.
- Taste your sample.
- If necessary, adjust the flavor.
- Repeat until you reach the desired level of deliciousness.
It’s simple as that.
Update on the Foodie Financial Challenge
Last week, I committed to a non-spiritual fast.
I’m challenging myself to a fast that involves eating two types of meals: 1) Home cooked 2) Restaurant cooked and paid for by someone else.
I almost did it. I was so close. But on Saturday, while enjoying a meal that was “restaurant cooked and paid for by someone else”, I broke fast by contributing a $1 tip to the bill because the payer was short on cash.
