After surveying YHMTYT readers and newsletter subscribers, I learned which financial matters most concern you:
- Saving an emergency fund
- Paying off debt
- Investing for retirement
Surprisingly, starting a business falls to the bottom of list. (You guys also don’t give a crap about funding your kids’ college education. :’) You make me proud.) But I know you’re interested in creating extra income streams.
Now, I spend more time hunting down fresh opportunities for you to boost your earnings without the hassle of starting a traditional business.
Fiverr.com–an online marketplace where you buy and sell services for (you guessed it) $5–offers a platform to achieve this goal.
The low price of five bucks entices buyers to order small jobs on impulse. If the product sucks, the customer doesn’t lose much. With that said, over a third of Fiverr gigs go for more than $5. So, creative sellers can pull in a hefty sum of cash.
Here are ten jobs you can provide on Fiverr.com
How Does Fiverr Get Paid?
Fiverr takes a cut of your earnings for connecting you with buyers. Also, the company remits payment to users via PayPal who charges fees for use of their service. After Fiverr siphons off $1.00 and PayPal snags another $0.08, you receive $3.92 for each $5.00 gig.
Doesn’t seem like much, does it?
But as I mentioned earlier, many jobs command more than a “fiver.”
5 Simple Tactics to Supercharge Your Fiverr Income
-
Ask for tips.
- After completing a job on time and as advertised, I received the following message from a seller: “FEELING GENEROUS? Buy me a drink!” The seller created a gig to buy HERSELF a $5 Green Tea Frappuccino® or a $10 lunch if customers appreciate her work.
-
Promote add-on services.
- Clients pay $5 for a 30-second video intro and $10 for a 60-second video intro.
-
Offer express delivery.
- Cater to the inner I-want-it-now demon by charging an extra $5 for 24-hour delivery or $10 for 12-hour delivery.
-
Charge extra for premium quality.
- Create a video testimonial in standard definition for $5. For $10, give your customer the file in high-definition.
-
Guarantee “satisfaction or your money back.”
- If the buyer isn’t happy with your work, offer a 100% refund within 3 days of product delivery.

Another example of making money on fiverr: offer an incredibly unique and hilarious product, like this kid. This might be the funniest service I’ve seen on the site, and he’s made over $300 so far.

That was cute. “Please no swearing. I’m only 10.”
Kudos to the parents for showing their kid how to earn money for himself at an early age.

I have never used Fiverr, but honestly – I’m too lazy to do work for $3.82.

It doesn’t seem like much, but it can be lucrative. For instance, some users sell the same digital products over and over that they only had to create once. Others are pretty effective at selling add-on services. If you’re going to stick with selling one off gigs, you’ve got to be pretty fast. I suspect the people who design graphic images start with a template to speed up the process of product creation.

It would be interesting if you had something you could turn around in under 5 minutes. That’d be over $45 an hour… not bad.

Yeah it would. There are products like that on the site. For instance, you can use Gmail’s Canned Response feature to turn around an instructional video or report within seconds.

I should really look into Fiverr deeper. I keep hearing about it, but keep putting it off. Love the ideas to upsell yourself.

You should. I think Fiverr offers a great opportunity to obtain more lucrative work. Also, providing a product or service that you can turn around within a few minutes could result in a hefty sum of side income.
