Sometimes you just wanna sell your things with no hassle, no haggle, and little to no human interaction.
Craigslist, flea markets, yard sales, even eBay are some of the most frequently used methods of selling your stuff. Unfortunately, they’re not necessarily for the lazy, busy, or uninterested, but these methods are.
Gazelle
Turn your old smartphones, iPads, iPods, or Macbooks into cash by selling them to Gazelle. Start by checking to see if your device is listed on the web site. If it is, enter details about the condition of your item and you’ll get a quote, right on the spot.
Once you select the offer, your price is locked in. All that’s left is to ship the item. Once it’s received, Gazelle will pay you via check, Amazon gift card, or PayPal. Shipping and data wipe are free.
Amazon Trade-In
Give Amazon your books, movies, electronics, music, and video games and they’ll credit you with an Amazon.com gift card in return.
The process works similar to Gazelle. Check to see if Amazon is looking for trades on your items, mail the items in within seven days, and you’ll receive the gift card credit within two business days.
Amazon sells so many products it won’t be hard putting the gift card to good use.
RadioShack Trade & Save
RadioShack’s Trade & Save program gives you the option of trading electronics online or in the store.
Items traded in store go toward a purchase and you’re mailed a RadioShack gift card for items you trade online.
The upside is that RadioShack seems to have a wider array of accepted appraisals.
RadioShack is a good option for things you can’t sell on Gazelle or Amazon. Trade online if you’re not quite ready for a new purchase.
Express Gold Cash
Skip the lowball offers from your local pawnshop and check out Express Gold Cash. Express Cash Gold pays cash for valuable precious metals like jewelry, coins, real silver flatware and even diamonds and dental gold. The process does take a few more steps.
First, you request Express Cash Gold to send a brochure and shipping materials to you.
Then, you send in your gold and wait for Express Cash Gold to reply back with an appraisal.
If you decide to accept the appraisal amount, you’ll receive the money via check or direct deposit. Otherwise, they’ll return your gold to you.
It seems risky to send your valuables to a company you’ve never heard of, but Express Cash Gold boasts an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
eBay Trading Assistant
The eBay selling process sometimes isn’t worth the time and effort if you’re only selling a couple of items. Instead, you can pay someone who knows what they’re doing: the eBay Trading Assistants.
These eBay selling experts have high seller ratings and good feedback. They’re local, so you can drop off your item, pay whatever fee the Trading Assistant charges and wait for your item to be sold.
TurboTax ItsDeductible
Any items you can’t sell can be donated. And, there may be tax benefits for donating items you can’t sell. TurboTax ItsDeductible online helps you track the items you’ve donated and gives a resale value for your donations. That’ll make life much easier for you and your tax preparer.
Stop sitting on your items because you don’t want the hassle of sales process. Start at the top of this list and work your way down. If all else fails, you can always drop your stuff off at Goodwill.

LOL. I love this. I avoid interaction with strangers (re: people buying my junk) like the plague. I usually end up avoiding them all together, therefore not being able to sell it, or making our meeting very brief and awkward. Great tips!

I’m not sure which is a bigger barrier to selling my stuff: laziness or my antisocial tendencies. I figured we could tackle both in one post.

The most convenient way to get rid of your stuff is to toss in the trash. But then, you don’t make any money, you don’t get a tax deduction, and you don’t help anyone. I’ve taken a lot of stuff to the thrift store just to avoid going through the process of selling my junk.

I’m actually in need of clearing out my storage rentals and have way too much stuff. I thought about selling most of it but I’m really too lazy and anti-social to do that. Now I’m at the point where I’m ready to give much of it away for free to whoever can come pick it up. I’ll have to look into some of your suggestions. Thanks for the tips!

If you still don’t want to go through the headache of selling your stuff, you can contact your local Goodwill to see if they’ll come get it. You can also try Freecycle.

Haha this is a fun article. The gold one sounds interesting, but I’m a little wary of the process. Trading Assistant sounds interesting, too. Sometimes just figuring out how to list large quantities of items can take a long time.

Although it’s not located in many cities yet, TaskRabbit is a great resource for finding people who are willing to help sellers photograph and list their stuff on sites like Craigslist and eBay.

Ha – I also like not having to actually deal with someone when I sell something. I’ve used Amazon on many occasions and it has worked out great!

I’m an Amazon fangirl. I don’t have much I can sell them because I’m pretty good about not buying stuff I don’t need. As for all the books I never get around to reading, I like to keep them on my bookshelf for as long as possible. I think of books as nerd artwork.

Gold is a very liquid metal, and can be bought and sold with no long delays. A few investments may take time to find a buyer, and this lack of liquidity can become an issue sometimes. Gold never ever has this problem simply because there are often purchasers who are willing to invest in gold no matter how high the market price gets. Gold is regarded a better option than several other vehicles for investing. Gold offers capital preservation and stores value well.
